The Return of “What Am I…”

…reading? -Tribe Novel: Bone Gnawers by Bill Bridges and Justin Achilli, part of the Werewolf: the Apocalypse Tribe Novel series. Not the best of them so far (that goes to, shockingly, Red Talon, I tribe I usually dislike), but still pretty good. Carlita, the main character, is very engaging.

…writing? – blogs!

…making? -A module for PHP-Nuke that allows character submissions on Online RP sites. Actually, I’m more modifying it then making it, but close enough.

…checking out? – FoxAttacks.com.

…laughing at? – This Video. Silly cops…

…in love with? – My wife Heather, the lovely and awesome fox, Mt. Dew, WoW Patch 2.3, and my vacation that starts Saturday.

…terrified by? – Clowns. Clowns are fucking EVIL. Also? This cat.

Poetry TAG: Takin’ it back for #10!

The sound shook his bones
like a cymbal
crashing fast against his soul,
a soul detached from mind and body,
shivering in the dark
and fearing the coming light
he fled to a dingy back alley
and waited. A wind rushed
to meet him at the end
with that terrible sound wound through it

I found this poem fragment at Mariacristina

Please play with us! Pick up the poem and take us on a walk through dreams, or follow our dreamwalk forward and back!

How this works:
It’s a game of poetry tag. Be the first to post TAG in the comments. Then take these lines and add one, in a post on your own blog, along with these instructions. Whoever adds the nineteenth line then takes the poem to Poets Who Blog at poetswhoblog and puts the whole poem in the comment section there. Each person who plays need to also mention what site you were at when you found the poem so that other bloggers can follow the breadcrumbs back to this poem. You can play more than once but not twice in a row

I found this poem fragment at the awesome Fox’s chasing shadows again.

My Random Meme of the Day

So having just finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (which I enjoyed), my meme for the day is this…

If you had a signature spell in the Potterverse, what would it be? It can be an established one, or one you make up (if so, you must give it a cool Latin-ish title). I know, some of you don’t like the Potterverse, and you are not required to answer (though if you wanna to the “make up your own” one, feel free). If you do make up your own, it can’t be all-powerful, like “A spell that makes me invulnerable/immortal/gives me everything I would ever need.”

If I get three responses, I’ll give my own. But I’m more curious to see what you all would choose.

And please…NO SPOILERS! Some people here may still want to read Book 7, but haven’t yet.

Meme

-RED-
1. Closest red thing to you?
A Rogers/Yahoo! Mug
2. Has anyone ever cheated on you in a relationship?
Yes…two have. One was an open relationship, but she did not tell me about one of them, and tried to hide it. I consider that cheating. I easily forgave both.
3. Last thing to make you MAD!?
Thought-posts in roleplays. They’re just an excuse for people to Out-of-Character editorialize and say what they don’t dare say in character. Or a cheap attempt to drum up sympathy for their character.
4. Are you a fan of romance?
Absolutely. Romance is a lovely thing.
5. Have you ever been in love?
Three times.
6. Do you have a temper?
I do, and I do lose it (more often then not, lately). But I usually calm down quickly.

-ORANGE-
1. Closest orange thing to you?
A 20 oz. bottle with a bit of Mt. Dew Livewire still in it.
2. Do you like to burn things?
Not without purpose.
3. Do you dress up for Halloween?
Almost always, though not necessarily anything overly elaborate. My costumes are usually either last-second things, or thought-out with a good dollop of morbid humor (like the year I dressed up as JFK, immediately after passing the grassy knoll).
4. Are you usually a warm-hearted person?
I would say so, yes.
5. Do you prefer the single life or the security of a relationship?

Relationships, definitely.
6. What would your superpower be?
Instant psychology would be the best way to put it. The ability to make people well and happy with but a thought.

-YELLOW-

1. Closest yellow thing to you?
A Yahoo! cell-phone “chair,” to put one’s cell in when at their desk. And I don’t even have a phone.
2. The happiest time[s] of your life?
My time right after moving out of my parents’ house, post-college. Doom was coming, but I was blissfully ignorant, and I loved those times.
3. Favorite holiday?
Halloween. Much like Fox, I ~hate~ Valentine’s Day. It rarely goes well.
4. Are you a coward?
I am sometimes, yes.
5. Do you burn or tan?
Oh, I ~totally~ burn. Without exception. The sun is evil. EVIL!!!
6. Do you want children?
I have children. They are my cats.
7. What makes you feel warm and safe?
My cats. The people I love.

-GREEN-

1. Closest green thing to you?
My Dew can and the Dew inside (noticing trends here?).
2. Do you care about the environment?
Absolutely. I’m a tree-hugging hippie freak.
3. Are you jealous of anyone right now?
Honestly, I usually am jealous of people, but for insignificant things I shouldn’t be jealous of.
4. Are you a lucky person?
Luck comes and goes. So yes and no.
5. Do you always want what you can’t have?
Sometimes. Not always.
6. Think of six green things that make you happy!
Dew, money, forests, Vampire: the Masquerade, Uncommon WoW items (I’m a dork), and my tie-dye blanket.
7. Are you Irish?
Don’t think so.

-BLUE-
1. Closest blue thing to you?
A mechanical pencil.
2. Are you good at calming people down?
I know several people who would say yes, so…yes.
3. Do you like the sea?
Very much. It’s incredibly peaceful, even when it’s angry.
4. What was the last thing that made you cry?
I honestly don’t remember.
5. Are you a logical thinker?
I’d say I’m more emotional then logical, but I do have my moments.
6. Can you sleep easily?
That depends on the definition of ‘easily.’ I can sometimes fall asleep without problem, but I don’t sleep well, usually
7. Do you prefer the beach or the woods?
Don’t make me choose something like that. That’s cruel.

-PURPLE-

1. Closest purple thing to you?
I’m at work at Yahoo!. Pick something.
2. Like being treated to expensive things?
Of course. I don’t require it, but I always enjoy and appreciate it.

Yeah, I would say I do. Mystery can be a good thing, for sure.
4. Favorite type of chocolate?
Dark chocolate.
5. Ever met anyone in royalty?
Nope.
6. Are you creative?
I like to think so.
7. Are you a lonely person?
Sometimes, I feel like I am. Even when I’m with people.

-PINK-

1. Closest pink thing to you?
A Kleenex box.
2. Do you like sweet things?
Absolutely. Sweet is always good!
3. Like play-fighting?
As long as it’s truly play and no one’s uncomfortable with it, yes. And as long as I don’t take any punches to the groin.
4. Are you sensitive?
Yes, I am.
5. Do you like punk music?
Depends on the band. I love the Clash, for one.
6. What is your favorite flower?
The pretty ones. I don’t know, specifically.
7. Does anyone have a crush on you?
Not to my knowledge, no.

-BLACK-

1. Closest black thing to you?
My iPod.
2. Do you like morbid things?
Almost always.
3. Do you like being underground?
Definitely. There’s a level of peace being surrounded by the earth.
4. Are you afraid of death?
Not particularly. I fear the pain of a torturous death, but the death itself, the ending…I do not.
5. Do you prefer neutral or vibrant colors?
Generally, I prefer darker colors and shades. I don’t know how those qualify.
6. What is your worst sin?
Thaaat’s a loaded question. By my reckoning, or by standard ’sin’ reckoning? If the latter, then the fact that I’m a bisexual pagan who’s been one of the prospective parents of an abortion. By my reckining? Hmmm. Giving up on some people that I probably shouldn’t have.
7. What’s your favorite text ever?
Anything but “LOL”. No, honestly, if we’re talking books/poems/etc., I would say “American Gods” by Neil Gaiman ranks high on the list.

Meme: 8 Things About Me

So, I’ve been intending to write in this, but after the flurry of posts last week, I just felt kinda wordless. Luckily, Ashish has given me a meme to do, and thus, I do it.

8 Things About Me

1. I have a scar on my right side from a bicycle accident when I was 13. The scar was an abrasion so bad, it was nearly a puncture wound. The accident left lesser abrasions all up and down my body, though those didn’t scar. Life sucked for a while, though.

2. I have one item that has stayed with me since I was 19. It’s a fuzzy-ish blanket, tie-dye colored. It has a hole in one end, and I will never get rid of it. EVER.

3. I have a weakness for John Cusack and Johnny Depp movies, and have never considered a single movie either of them have made “bad.” Cusack has the edge over his fellow John.

4. I have an absolute, 100% complete complex about my writing, which is why I don’t show more of it then I do. If I’m not satisfied with it, I won’t show it to most, and I’m rarely if ever satisfied by it.

5. I store my tension in my neck, primarily. Sometimes, my shoulders too, but almost never my lower back.

6. I have a fascination with serial killers, and read everything I can get my hands on about them. One of my favorite books I own is “The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers.” It sat on my desk at my past job for a year and freaked people out.

7. Hanging on the wall next to my computer is the Civilization IV Tech Tree and Specification Chat, a street map of Manhattan, a movie poster for The Zodiac (the direct-to-DVD one, not the one released in February), a saw-edged long sword, and five wrestling posters (of Bill Goldberg, Andre the Giant, Stacy Kiebler, Stephanie McMahon, and Torrie Wilson).

8. Heat kills me. KILLS me. I absolutely wilt in anything over 85 degrees. Thus, I’ve hated the last week.

There you go. I have possibly, upcoming, reviews of Live Free or Die Hard and Transformers, and maybe even Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix after I see it. And maybe more. We’ll see.

Because I Am Sheep – How Did You Find Me?

Stealing a concept from Ashish (who stole it from someone else), I present to you, over the last month, the top 10 ways readers have found me by searching the web. Not quite as interesting as his yet, but hey, give it time.

1: el wray
This one is easy to determine where it came from; El Wray being the awesome character played by Freddy Rodriquez in Grindhouse, which I gave a rather glowing review to.
Probable Post: Ravyn Reviews: Grindhouse (April 13, 2007)

2 god bless you mr. rosewater quotes
This one has been, since the beginning of the site, the most popular search terms to finding me, thanks to a little blurb about the passing of Kurt Vonnegut. It’s down in searches lately, but still going strong.
Probable Post: God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater (April 11, 2007)

3 “anything wrong with this picture?”
Easy. The picture of ol’ G. Dubya, downing a brewski (albeit “non-alcoholic”) at the G8 summit, and my accompanying rant.
Probable Post: Pictures are Worth a Thousand Giggles (Or Snorts) (June 9, 2007)

4 “fox can tell” lyric
Oh, how some folks have been misdirected with this one…poor bastards. But then again, they get to learn about Fox, so it’s a positive for them.
Probable Post: Theme Fun Again (May 15, 2007)

5 “until the end” lyrics – “linkin park”
My Review of Minutes to Midnight is the only possible reason for this one. Check LyricWiki, guys.
Probable Post: Selling Out, Linkin Park + Backstreet Boyz, and Politics – A Musical Rant & Review (May 27, 2007)

6 cherry darling “useless talent”
Another Grindhouse one.
Probable Post: Ravyn Reviews: Grindhouse (April 13, 2007)

7 how to use expound
This one had to be from the title of my rant about rap lyrics, MySpace, and bad parents.
Probable Post: Wherein I expound about censorship and parenting, and find a soapbox upon which to stand (May 18, 2007)

8 racehorse ankle fluid build up
This actually is a mash-up, Linkin Park/Jay-Z style, from a trio of posts…my confusion over Barbaro getting more Candles then the Virgina Tech Massacre, the getting to know me post where I talking about my wife’s pseudo-tumor cerebri, and mentioning my ankle injury in context of how an act of kindness stunned me. I hope somewhere in there, they found what they were looking for…but probably not.
Probable Post(s): Huwuh? (Barbaro vs Virginia Tech) (May 6, 2007), Random Acts of Kindness and how they Blow the Mind (April 26, 2007), and Wherein I explain myself a bit and ponder the concept of President Chimpy…War Vet(???) (April 24, 2007)

9 RPG player type meme
Well, this one, at least, the searcher got what they were looking for.
Probable Post: What RPG Player Type Are You?

10 violent music and censorship
This would be the same one as #7, where I went off on how rap lyrics and censorship should not mix.
Probable Post: Wherein I expound about censorship and parenting, and find a soapbox upon which to stand (May 18, 2007)

This was actually kind of interesting. Might end up doing this every few months, to see what people are finding me with. And it’s a quick and easy way to keep this thing posted to. Yes, I cheat.

What RPG Player Type Are You?

Okay, so I’ve sworn that I will not turn my WordPress into a clutter of memes like my LiveJournal has become. But this one I had to share…just ’cause.

You scored as Character Player. The Character Player enjoys creating in-depth characters with distinct and rich personalities. He identifies closely with his characters, feeling detached from the game if he doesn’t. He takes creative pride in exploring different characters, often making each new one radically different than others he’s played. The Character Player bases his decisions on his character’s psychology first and foremost. He may view rules as a necessary evil at best, preferring sessions in which the dice never come out of their bags. For the Character Player, the greatest reward comes from experiencing the game from the emotional perspective of an interesting character.

What RPG Player (Not Character) Type Are You? created with QuizFarm.com

What am I…

…reading? — American Gods,  by Neil Gaiman.  Re-reading, actually.  The best stuff never gets old.

…writing? — Working on my first fiction piece in quite some time, a Sin City fanfic featuring characters of mine from World of Darkness: New York City.  Yes, my qeekitude knows no bounds.

…making? — Nothing at the moment.

…checking out? — Music that I learned about from FMV’s sent my way by the ever-lovely and awesome Dazed Kistune.

…laughing at? — Stupid people.  Very, very stupid people.  Very, very stupid people who get on my nerves.  It’s either laugh or point and pull the trigger, and I have yet to learn how to shoot people over the internet.

…in love with? — Lotsa stuff.  My wife and the aforementioned Dazed Kistune, for starters.

…terrified by? — Clowns.  Evil things.
